Crocs and gators are both found in the United States but only southern Florida has both. This region seems to be the only place on earth where the two cohabitate in the same area. Alligators can also be found in several other states, mostly those located in the southeast (although I was fortunate to spy some sunning on river rocks while on a drive from Sacramento to Lake Tahoe). Stories have also been related to them living in the sewers of the country’s large cities, cast-off pets flushed down the drain.
The simplest way to tell a croc from a gator is by the color. Crocodiles are lighter in color, tending towards a light olive brown shade.
